- Parent emergency contact numbers and procedures are kept with the first aid box for speed of response.
- We have written permission from parents to get emergency treatment for their child if it is needed.
- A text will be sent, (particularly in case of head/face injuries), to let you know that your child has a minor injury.
- An accident form will be prepared for you to sign at pick up time. You will keep a copy of this form.
If there is an accident:
- We will comfort and reassure the injured child whilst making sure that the other children in our care are safe. This may mean strapping a baby in a buggy or sitting an older child where they can be seen. We will explain in child friendly language, what is happening and what we are doing.
- We will assess the extent of their injuries and will carry out any first aid procedures that are necessary and that we have been trained to do.
- If necessary we will call 999 for an ambulance.
- If one of us needs to accompany or take a child to hospital, we will call our emergency back-up cover. This will be either David O’Kane, another registered childminder or known responsible adult/neighbour. These people are named below.
If there is an accident or emergency, one of our emergency back-up cover may contact you and you will be expected to collect your child straight away
If we manage to deal with the accident ourselves, then we will inform the parents immediately about what has happened.
If one of us must accompany or take a child to hospital, we will contact the parents of the child and ask them to meet us at the hospital whilst the emergency back-people are called to help at the setting.
