Evacuation Policy
In the unlikely event of an emergency evacuation when we have children in our care, for example a gas leak, a fire, a flood, we would follow this procedure:
- We have working smoke alarms and we will use this to indicate that there is an emergency drill. We will use the key word “EMERGENCY” with the children.
- Get the children out of the premises as quickly as possible; we can use the front door, dining room door to the back garden, sliding patio doors to the back garden or escape through the back garden into adjoining properties gardens, through their path and onto the grassed area at the front.
- We will use the buggy from car to strap children in, if we have to go back in for another child. Keys on person.
- We will carry babies, linking hands to gather all children as we leave the premises.
- Close all doors as we leave the house.
- Phone fire brigade from mobile.
- Go to Emergency Helper ( next door neighbour who is a retired teacher or in case of a fire, go to our opposite neighbours and wait on grassed area)
- Phone children’s parent/main carer or emergency carer if main carer unavailable
- Phone Ofsted
- To ensure that everyone knows what to do, and understands their responsibility in their response, we will practice our evacuation drill monthly, without alarm, termly with, and if we have new children or assistants start.
- Drills enable children to familiarise themselves with new surroundings and procedures and reduce the risk of panic or accidents.
- We will record drills and any issues that the drill highlights in our Emergency, Health and Safety folder, and we will inform parents that we have had a drill and any issues arising in their contact book.
We will always carry a mobile phone fully charged number 07527 756572 which has been issued to all parents. Other phone has all the necessary numbers on.
All emergency contact numbers for each child is held on the phone (parent’s contact numbers, doctor etc).
Other emergency numbers of our own doctor, police contact, and emergency responsible person to mind children are also on our phone. All parents have been issued an emergency card with procedural instructions.
We will keep the car/s in full working order, with petrol, mot, insurance and car seats/booster seats.
